What makes a great Traveling HCP?
According to Laura Latimer at Nomadicare, and current traveling therapist, there are 3 BIG factors that make a great traveling HCP.
- Adaptability: each location is different, all the people you will meet are different. Being open to a wide range of locations and not limiting yourself to a small area, will make it easier to find opportunities, make friends, and of course, be open to what each location has to teach you.
- Open Mindedness: This is like the first one. But has more to do with being open to all the different types of people you’re going to meet during your assignments. While this may seem obvious, there are many people (not just HCPs) that experience culture shock. Even just moving from one town to another in the same state can make a big difference in the way people talk, the expressions they use, and being open to those differences can make the difference between an enjoyable assignment and a miserable one.
- Good Clinical Skills and Ethical Boundaries: Of course this made the list! Confidence in your skills and the ability to thrive in autonomy can make your experience as a traveler easier.
- Why do I want to travel? Money? Adventure? Need a fresh start?
- Is the idea of a new city exciting or scary?
- Is the thought of introducing yourself to new people and cultures sound like a great experience?
- Are you looking for adventure or would you prefer to stay in the box you’ve always been in?
